NAILFAME INDIAN NAILART BLOG

January is a month of Vibrant Colors in my City. Tomorrow is 14th January and every year this day is celebrated as #UTTARAYAN aka #Makarsankrati in my state #Gujarat.  In fact #Makarsankrati is celebrated by every state in India with different name and tradition. Like in Gujarat we fly Kites in the sky for whole day.It is a major festival which lasts for two days, i.e. 14th (Uttarayan) and 15th January (Stale Uttarayn)

We #Gujarati people keenly await this festival to fly kites, called ‘patang’ in Gujarati. Kites for Uttarayan are made of special light-weight paper and bamboo and are mostly rhombus shaped with central spine and a single bow. The string often contains abrasives in order to cut down other people’s kites.

In Gujarat, from December through to Makarsankranti, people start enjoying Uttarayan. Undhiyu (spicy, baked mix of winter vegetables) Jalebi and chikkis (made from til (sesame seeds), peanuts and jaggery) are the special festival recipes savoured on this day. (Sooooo yummmm…I am going to eat all of this tommorow…it’s absolutely delicious)

In the major cities of state, skies appear filled with thousands upon thousands of kites as people enjoy two full days of Uttarayan up on their terraces. When people cut any kites they used to yell with words like “kaypo chhe”, “e lapet”,”phirki vet phirki” and “lapet lapet” in Gujarati language.

So, Let’s see how my city sky will look tomorrow and this photos are my inspiration for Uttarayan Special Manicure I am wearing currently on my nails.

This is how the markets are looking at this moment. So colorful and Vibrant. (Photo Courtesy : Google and  original photographer)
